#rp15: The Best of All the Surrounding Events & Our Party Tips

Whether it’s “Tatort”, outdoor games or just some good music: the re:publica’s got almost as much to offer offstage as it does on! We recommend the official supporting program and offer up some party tips!

It’s your first time at the re:publica? Stop by the Newbies Meet-Up! On Monday, May 4 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, May 5 at 2 p.m., you can head to the welcome post and meet up with other like-minded people and Alena (easily recognizable thanks to her ‘Meet Me’ sign). She’ll be giving you a short introduction to the conference and a tour of the site. You can find more helpful info for newbies in our blog post.

You’ve got a head packed full of information, feel like getting out and about, but don’t want to miss out on anything either? The outdoor challenge Finding Europe – as a refugee by mediale pfade, in cooperation with the Museum of Technology, gives you both. The fast-paced team game combines physical activity with the conference topic and gives you the chance to expand your knowledge on the path political refugees have to take to get to Europe. You’ll have 45 minutes to solve as many tasks as possible – in a race against other teams and the clock. The challenge kicks off every day at 1 and 4 p.m. at the information post. Register up to 30 minutes before the start of the game at medialepfade.de/rp15.

Every afternoon, fresh air fanatics with less of an urge to move can head over to the Busker Diaries Stage in the courtyard. Frost & Krohn have gathered together the best of Berlin’s international street musician scene. Artists like The Trouble NotesTanga Elektra and Stephen Paul Taylor will be playing from 5 to 7 p.m. on all three days of the conference and will be giving us insights into their own personal perspectives on our Finding Europe motto. Also, look forward to performances by Jamie Collier, Milly Blue and The Rad Dads.
The Busker Diaries boys have made it their mission to document and support street music in all of its forms. They travel the city filming web portraits of different street artists to achieve that goal. The short-film episodes are then collected into a magazine-type format on their blog. Going a step further and linking the street music concerts with digital society, the Busker Diaries will be staging what could be the world’s first analogue crowdfunding campaign on-site!

For all those interested in art and comics, it’s definitely worth stopping by our little creative workshop. In the area between the big indoor hall and Stage 8, Talenthouse has invited caricaturists and comic artists to set up shop. Swing by and pick up your own personal caricature.
Right next door we have Photoshop Your Dream, for all those who don’t feel comfortable posing but still want to take home a picture as a souvenir. Margaux will be bringing her blog to the re:publica and your dreams to life with her exciting Photoshop productions.
There will also be three live comic artists at the #rp15. Johannes Kretzschmar (@beetlebum), Jeff Chi (@kroko_dok) and Tim Gaedke (@doppeltim) will be on-location and comic-blogging the re:publica live, capturing the conference’s special moments in small illustrations. These will be circulating via their Twitter accounts and the #rp15comics hashtag during the conference. Enjoy their unique take on the goings-on!

You’ll be able to find another interesting art project and special implementation of the Finding Europe motto in the passageway between Stage 1 and Stage 2: Finding Europe with Lights uses sensors dispersed throughout Europe to transport the continent’s subtle differences in light on-site to the re:publica. Read up and find out how the project works and what it looks like here and here. It’s now also possible to follow-up on the ubirch GmbH Internet of Things project using the company’s own app. As a special gimmick, each lamp has received its own Twitter connection. As soon as someone tweets using the #fewl und #rp15 hashtags and a country code, the corresponding lamp will light up at the next update!

A message for all the change makers: Filming For Change (FFCH) is looking for anyone and everyone who’s enthusiastic about change! Whether you’re a change instigator, activist, netronaut, blogger, nerd or geek: FFCH will be interviewing you to collect your ideas, the latest buzz and projects – in short: anything to do with the topic of change is welcome! You can follow where the team is at any given time by checking their Twitter channel.
lesflaneuers are also on the go with a camera in hand, but have got their sights set on a completely different concept. They’re going to be shooting the #Tatort Affenfelsen live and on-location! The interactive shoot with hackers, cats and wild chase scenes fulfils all the tried and true Tatort clichés. Follow @tatortaffenfels and become a part of the production whenever you want! It’s gonna be criminal!

Still not had enough? Your creativity isn’t anywhere near exhausted?! As per usual, there’ll be lots of projects and events personally put together by the participants happening in and around the conference, besides just the official supporting program: find out lots more ideas on what you can experience at the re:publica, lovingly compiled at cortexdigital.de. A big thanks goes out to Stefan Evertz for gathering together all the info!

Let’s get the party started!

What would the re:publica be without its legendary parties and the accompanying musical evening program? Just like every year, we’ve got lots in store for your ears and just as much to guarantee to get you up and dancing!

We’ve created an overview for you to get a taste of what’s on offer via SoundCloud and consorts, as well as a detailed schedule. Let’s get the party started!

We can already give you a heads-up on a few of the highlights: we’re extending a cordial early invitation to you for Monday! At the pre:publica, we’ll be hanging out in the courtyard from 4-9 p.m., listening to some of our favourite mixtapes.

Always a favourite: Chris Bischop in the Jazzbar. The former proprietor of the legendary Cologne Jazz bar “Metronom” will be dishing out Jazz, Bebop and Hardbop on Tuesday starting at 4 p.m., and on Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 p.m. onwards. Come by, relax and enjoy a drink or two.

If you’ve already had your fill of sitting around by the time midday rolls in, we recommend you don’t miss out on Lunch Beat. Starting at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, head to the re:fill Bar for the big midday party.

We’ve got some extra special live music in store for you on the evening of May 6. At 7.pm. in the Jazzbar, it’s all about Music meets Digital Culture. In cooperation with the Berlin Music Commission Backstage, we have live music by Sebastian Studnitzky (Trumpet) & Paul Kleber (Double bass). Afterwards, the evening moves next door to the Store with DJ Daniel W. Best (XJAZZ) and a special live performance by Tangowerk featuring The Oracle.

On May 7, as a special party zone and in association with the Finding Europe motto, we’ll be hosting a UK election party at Stage T. Get ready for some authentic British stand up to guide us through the election evening, the results of which we can expect around midnight.

Elsewhere, the evening of May 7 kicks off with DJ saetchmo getting things rolling at 8 p.m. in the Store. Then, stepping up to the DJ booth at 10 p.m., we’ve got none other than Alec Empire. The head of Atari Teenage Riot has been a highly influential figure in underground music, helping shape the Digital Hardcore genre. We’re already looking forward to hearing what sounds he’s going to surprise us with. At midnight, _tasmo will be taking over to lay down his beats and take us into the early morning hours.

And what about the final day? Well, party until the break of dawn, of course! We’ll be celebrating the end of the ninth re:publica with you! We’ve got DJ Ninjagonzo aka La Niña dropping fat bass and pop for you in the re:fill Bar from 8 to 10 p.m. Arne Bense and ‘Bass ist Netzpolitik’ (Bass is Net-politics) will be taking over after her. Going out with a bang, we’ve got the re:publica DJ team taking over at midnight, to drop some serious business – music straight from us to you!
