Bringing the Stream To Your Screens

Old hat, revamped: With our Multicast protocol, you can all watch the video stream of the event right on your own gadgets. That means that in the entire WiFi in and around the STATION-Berlin, the video stream from Stage 1 is available for all mobile and other devices. You only need to copy this link: rtp://@239.255.23.42:5004, and enter it into your VLC video player window using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/⌘-N. If your player is properly installed, the stream should open up in the player directly. Multicast essentially means that one person sends out the data, but many others can receive the linear (video) contents, so the total number of participants at the venue hardly matters - the entire Internet is helping to replicate the contents. 

As a side note, multicast as a technology is far from new, and first became popular in the 1990s. Today, it could be interesting for municipal networks, for instance, and might conceivably serve as a neutral infrastructure, which could then be supplied through a wide range of content providers.
